Netball Fiji acknowledges the recent public commentary regarding our governance, leadership and financial management and while we welcome constructive feedback and open dialogue, we are concerned about the spread of misinformation that
misrepresents the reality of our operations and commitment to the sport and its growth.
President Netball Fiji RubyAnn Sorovaki said, “In our role as custodians of the sport we will not engage in any manner or form of discussion that creates division or brings disrepute to netball. Our focus remains on fostering a healthy and safe environment that supports the sport and its future, our administrators, technical officials, players
and volunteers.”
Governance & Transparency
Netball Fiji operates under a clear governance structure guided by our Constitution and the call for a Special General Meeting (SGM) is being addressed in full compliance with its procedures. We are approaching the SGM in good faith which for Netball Fiji means that we will not discuss any matter related to the SGM, its motions or the districts involved to allow for fairness to prevail.
Financial Management & Support
Claims regarding financial mismanagement and lack of support are inaccurate. Netball Fiji adheres to strict financial protocols, including regular audits and transparent reporting. Every year we present audited accounts at the AGM. We also work closely
with our funders- government through the Fiji National Sports Commission and Netball Australia to ensure all reporting is timely and all funding is accounted for. We continue to work within our means to provide development programs, competitions, and assistance for our member associations and players.
Membership obligations is vital for development programs to take place and no-adherence to these obligations ultimately impacts our ability to allocate the resources required for development.
Sorovaki added, “Just as districts are run on the levies they receive from club membership so too does Netball Fiji. We operate on the levies and affiliation we receive from districts and allocate resources for training and development according
to available funding.”
Membership Fees & Support
Netball Fiji remains committed to ensuring accessibility to the sport and district leaders are aware of this. There has been discussion on changes to levied amounts at past AGMS and following the 2024 AGM we agreed that after collating proper data we could work together make an informed decision on a levy that worked well for all. Before this
could happen the SGM was called.
Respect for Former Players & Their Role in Development
We deeply respect and acknowledge the contributions of our former players, whose dedication has shaped netball in Fiji and those that are involved with their clubs and those that engage in our national programs do great work.
Netball Fiji remains open to collaboration with all stakeholders, including our former players, and we continually encourage those with a passion for the sport to come forward and engage in accreditation programs, mentorship, and official roles that will help strengthen our netball community.
Commitment to Our Sport & Athletes
Our priority remains the growth and success of netball in Fiji. We urge all stakeholders to engage in productive discussions that advance the sport, rather than create unnecessary division through unverified public statements.
“As the governing body, our responsibility is to protect and develop the sport of netball in Fiji and this will always be done with humility and teachable spirits. The needs of the sport and all its people will always be our priority,” Sorovaki added.
