Netball Fiji Development team began their development clinic for umpires last week at Lomary Secondary School.
Gabriel Qoro, Netball Fiji’s Interim Sports Development Coordinator, led the one-day clinic, which saw more than 10 participants.
The initiative is part of Netball Fiji’s outreach program, designed to train new umpires and further develop existing ones. The goal is to ensure that grassroots umpires are well-prepared and equipped with the necessary skills before the upcoming district-level club netball competitions.
“The main aim is to get our umpires at grassroots refreshed with all fundamentals of umpiring and upskilling them so they’re ready to officiate at their local tournaments.”
Netball Fiji’s capacity-building efforts aim to strengthen every aspect of the sport, focusing on upskilling umpires, training bench officials, organizing community coaching workshops, holding school clinics, and other initiatives that contribute to the development of netball.
Netball Fiji president Mrs. RubyAnn Sorovaki explained how capacity building is crucial for Netball Fiji to grow the game, adding that developing trainings and workshops together with stakeholders including Fiji National Sports Commission will assist in developing everyone that is involved in the game.
