Suva Grammar School have secured a total of four titles in the Punjas Digicel Secondary Schools Netball Finals.
The Nasese-based School proved to be an undeniable force throughout the three-day secondary schools netball tournament that commenced on Monday, August 21st, and concluded with the finals on Wednesday, August 23rd.
SGS secured the U14, U15, 17, and the main final of the U19 grade led by team captain and Fiji Pearls player Elina Drikibau.
The U14 team displayed their prowess by overcoming a formidable Niusawa team from the Garden Island Taveuni, securing victory with a score of 16 – 13.
Meanwhile, the U15 team triumphed in a fierce battle against the girls from Jasper Williams High School, emerging victorious with a score of 15 – 13. The U17 team’s performance was exceptional, swiftly outplaying Yat Sen in the finals with a score of 19 – 5.
Fiji Pearls player and captain of the SGS U19 team, Drikibau, guided her team to a resounding victory against the reigning champions, Adi Cakobau School.
SGS Netball coach Mr Navitalai Naivalu said that the teams success is a testament of the players and managements sacrifice.
“The victory tonight shows the students sacrifice towards training, the handwork they put through months of preparation, that was the key to our success.”
Mr. Naivalu thanked all parents and old schoolers for the ongoing support towards the teams.
“The ongoing support from the parents and old scholars was something that also helped a lot in our campaign towards this tournament.”
He also emphasized how their victory would serve as inspiration for upcoming netball players in Suva Grammar.
“Our victory over the four grades U14, U15, U17, U19 is like a guideline which will boost the morale of the upcoming players in Suva Grammar.”
“The success is through hard work dedication and team work from the girls, hats off to them for playing their hearts.”
Mr Navaivalu said that the achievement is a result of hard work, dedication, and teamwork from the girls. “Hats off to them for putting their hearts into the game.”
