The Pearls presented their “i-Tatau” of traditional farewell to the Head of State prior to their departure for the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.
While accepting the i-Tatau from the National Netball team, His Excellency the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere congratulated the players on their selection to the Fiji team and wished them well in their participation at the World Cup competition later this month.
President Katonivere said that all their sacrifices to represent Fiji has finally paid off.
“I am really honored that you have the courage to represent Fiji and set an example for the future of netball in Fiji.”
President Katonivere urged the team to keep the dream alive for the young ladies in Fiji. “I am confident that you will shine out there and do us proud,” the Head of State said.
Following the presentation of their i-Tatau, the Fiji Pearls team will go continue with their preparation including some match play with the Fiji Men’s Netball team.
Fiji Pearls Coach, Unaisi Rokoura said that they were honoured to present their Itatau to the President and seek the blessing of the Vanua and the Country. She added, “we were very blessed to receive his support and encouragement prior to our departure as we have a very tough battle ahead of us.”
The Fiji Pearls will depart for Cape Town next week Thursday 20thth July.
