The Lautoka Netball Association is determined to enhance its club competition, nurture local athletes, and increase the number of players from their association representing Fiji on the international stage in the next three years.
The Lautoka Netball club competition encompasses seven grades: 9&Under, 12&Under, 15&Under, 18&Under, Super Premier, Premier, and the Men’s grade. Each grade provides a platform for players of different age groups and skill levels to showcase their talent and passion for netball.
Mrs. Dorothy Prasad, President of the Lautoka Netball Association, expressed the association’s commitment to the development of their club competition. “The Lautoka Netball club competition has been running for six weeks, and we are excited to announce that the Promo Relegations in the Open Grades (Super Premier & Premier) will take place in two weeks’ time,” Prasad stated.
She further explained the upcoming schedule, saying, “The Round 2 competitions will run for a month, followed by the preparation for the National Championships in August.”
The association is proud to have two players, Sereana Maragi and Melaia Rokoua, currently representing Fiji in the national team, known as the Pearls. Both players are associated with the Sekoula Clubs, who are the defending champions in 2023. The Lautoka Netball Association aims to cultivate more talented athletes from their region to join the national team in the years to come.
Prasad emphasized that part of their vision is to provide continuous support and development opportunities for grassroots netball throughout the season. The association remains dedicated to training its athletes, helping them adapt to various training programs, and ensuring their preparedness for any upcoming Netball Fiji sanctioned tournaments.
The Lautoka Netball Association is dedicated to uplifting the sport in their region and contributing to the growth of netball in Fiji as a whole. By providing a robust club competition, fostering talent development, and encouraging national representation, they aim to create a strong netball community and produce exceptional athletes who will proudly represent Fiji at the highest level.
