Netball Fiji made a difference in the lives of families in need during the COVID pandemic and this year Netball Fiji continues to provide assistance to the community through its partnership with Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).
The community relief programme, which began in January 2022, has assisted families struggling to make ends meet.
Through the partnership, Netball Fiji has managed to barter over 40 netball kits in exchange for groceries, providing families with both essential supplies and the opportunity to stay active through sport.
Netball Fiji sold a total of 18 netball kits this year, with all proceeds directed to YWCA for the purchase of groceries for families in need.
The impact of the programme is already being felt in communities around the country, with YWCA distributing the groceries to members of communities identified through its area councils.
Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster spoke about the importance of the programme, stating: “We’re not as big as other sporting organisations in the country, but we will go an extra mile when it comes to giving back to the communities.”
The programme has already made a significant difference in the lives of families in need, and Netball Fiji and YWCA are committed to exploring further opportunities to support the community.
“We’re discussing more opportunities that we can create with our partnership with YWCA, and we’d also like to say a big Vinaka to everyone who has donated items and to everyone who purchased the kits, please know that all your proceeds will help the families in need, so it’s a great help for those families and for the community.”
