The PacificAus Sports team captained by Nina Nakula took part in the Netball Queensland age grade championship over the weekend.
Athletes from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, and PNG formed the Pasifika team as an invitational to the 18U competition at the Netball Queensland Nissan State Title held in Brisbane from Sunday to Tuesday.
The team got to showcase their skills and the lessons they have learned from their first week of camp in Brisbane.
The purpose of the 18U State Titles is to provide an opportunity for the best athletes across Queensland to compete against each other in a high-quality competition in which the PacificAus Sports team is part of.
The championship introduced the Pacific athletes to an elite environment and familiarise them to a high-performance level.
Samoa Netball coach Manuia Leuii emphasized on the correlation between these players and the environment they’re in.
“What’s really important for our players is that they get to interact with other players from around the state and it’s important that they see the level that Australia is at obviously, dominating, netball,” Samoa coach Manuia Leuii said.
“Just to have that experience of what they’ve been taught on the court this last week but it’s also important for them to understand being good sports and having that camaraderie with other players, thats really valuable for the girls ” added Leuii.
The Nissan State championship continues today with the finals scheduled for tomorrow.
