NewsA New Era for Netball Fiji: Transition Committee Sets a Clear Path Forward

Netball Fiji has entered a new phase of renewal and strengthened governance, with the Transition Committee convening its first official meeting on Saturday, 7 March. The Committee, elected at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), has begun its work with a unified focus on stability, accountability, and long-term growth for the sport.

The Committee has confirmed the following leadership appointments:
Chair: Vasiti Vugakoto
Co-Chair: Rubyann Sorovaki
Secretary: Alumeci Vosararawa‑Sachs.

They are joined by committee members Dorothy Prasad, Myrtle Smith, Courtney Bitu, Kitione Waqavonovono and Wati Seeto, as co-opted legal adviser, bringing together strong governance experience and a shared commitment to Netball Fiji’s future.
Mandated by members to implement the newly approved governance structure, the Transition Committee will oversee a structured program of reforms under its new Constitution over the coming months.

Committee Chair Vasiti Vugakoto noted that “while the road to this point has not been easy, the transition marks a decisive step forward for Fiji Netball. The adoption of the new Constitution demonstrates our members’ commitment to a stronger future for the sport. Our role now is to ensure the transition is transparent, inclusive, and firmly aligned with the long-term development goals for netball in Fiji.”

She also expressed appreciation to outgoing President Rubyann Sorovaki for her leadership, acknowledging that this new phase builds on the foundation laid under her tenure.

The transition period will be guided by three overarching priorities that reflect the intent of the new constitution and the long-term interests of the sport:
1. Restoration of strong and transparent governance to ensure confidence across all levels of Netball Fiji and its partners.
2. Protection and continuity of high performance, development, and competition programs so that athletes, coaches, and officials remain fully supported throughout the transition and Fiji’s international ranking is addressed; and
3. Rebuilding of trust and unity within the netball community, with a focus on strengthening relationships with member Associations, stakeholders, and development partners to secure a sustainable and inclusive future for the game.

Together, these priorities provide a clear pathway for stability and long-term success. The appointment of the new Management Board in 2027 will see the full implementation of these strategic areas and the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer to take Netball Fiji forward in preparation for the World Cup 2027 and Olympics in 2030.

END.
