Fiji Men’s Netball Captain Kitione Waqavonovono was among players who impressed and was named in Netball Scoops top player of the year poll.
This nomination comes as a result of his exceptional leadership and performances in the Fiji Men’s Netball team outings over the past 2 years.
Netball Fiji acknowledges this recognition and notes it is more than just a milestone for Men’s netball in Fiji it also symbolizes the collective ascent of a team and the support and passion that comes with it.
The Fijian squad’s competitive spirit has been on display across multiple tournaments. In the 2025 Fiji Men’s Invitational Netball Tournament held locally the Fiji Men’s edged the New Zealand Net Blacks in a historic and thrilling 56–54 final.
Earlier in 2025, the Fiji team impressed at the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (AMMNA) Championship, gaining valuable international experience and securing wins against strong Australian State teams.
This momentum followed continued success in late 2024, when Fiji claimed the Men’s Nations Series title in Singapore, defeating Australia Under-20 55–54 in a dramatic final to bring home the Merlion Cup — a historic moment for the team that rallied them support from fans in Fiji, across the region and abroad.
These results and achievements reflect a broader growth and highlight a new era for men’s netball in Fiji. With grassroots interest growing and elite performances gaining international attention, there is renewed optimism that Fiji could soon become a powerhouse in men’s netball globally.
Other players named alongside Waqavonovono include England Thorns Captain James Thomson-Boston, Jamal Nicholson, James Firminger, Nathan Wilson of New Zealand and Vukile Zulu of South Africa.
