Fiji Men’s head coach Jioweli Vakamoce and Baby Pearls Technical Coach and former Fiji Pearls Vaiti Waqatabu took part in a one-week PacificAus Sports Netball Coaches Development Program at the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS), Canberra last week.
The program is organized by Netball Australia and supported by the Australian Government through PacificAus Sports.
Participants included coaches from Pacific Island Countries, participants learned and built their knowledge on the player pathway while also developing their coaching skills.
Coach Makare said that the program was a perfect opportunity to learn more about player development pathway at an elite stage.
“While the athletes continue to strive to build a strong connected pathway to the elite stage, it also allowed us Coaches to learn how this works from the Coaches who continue to provide expertise and inspirations for these athletes/players to thrive.”
“Reflecting on the weeklong program, we were also fortunate to watch the final trials of the Origin Diamonds squad on their selection for the upcoming Constellation Cup and also the training match between the 21 and Under team against the 19 and Under National squad team.”
“I have learnt a lot in terms of high-performance knowledge, skills and behavior, I also observed how each Specialist Coaches uses learnt concepts to build skills progressions and continue to engage players to support learning and improvement,” added Makare.
Vaiti will join the Baby Pearls team in Gibraltar while Makare returns back to the country over the weekend.
