Fiji Pearls duo, Reama Verekauta and Naviniya Sivo, are seizing the opportunity to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games.
Despite being non-traveling reserves at the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, both athletes shared a common drive to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games, fuelling their determination towards selection. Recognising the need for focused dedication, they continued to hone their skills and persevere in their efforts.
Sivo said that she continued to do her training back in Australia with the help of her coaches and family, “they continued to push me to make this team.”
Verekauta stressed the value of hard work over sheer talent, emphasizing that with a strong desire and dedicated effort, one can achieve their goals.
Now that they’re selected to the Pacific Games, they now shift their focus to the next job. Verekauta said that the Pacific Games campaign is a platform where they will determine the best team in the Pacific, she added that its their job as a team to work together and get that result.
The Nabukelevu, Kadavu lass shared that all their games will be crucial and they won’t take any team lightly.
“We won’t doubt any team when we go out there, we’ll focus on the task in front on us when and move forward, and we’ll make sure to do our best,” Verekauta asserted.
Sivo emphasised on how they’re going to take on one step at a time, focus on the given task at hand and then moving on to the next challenge.
“We’re staying focused as a team, taking one game at a time,” she explained.
The Nasolo, Bua lass explained that it was a good experience having to work with the experience players.
“They’ve been instrumental on the court; their experience is something I greatly admire, and I’ve learned immensely from it.”
Verekauta echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the support from senior players during their training sessions. “The camaraderie within the camp is fantastic, especially how the veterans guide and encourage us through our training sessions,” she noted.
