It is with great sadness that Netball Fiji learned of the passing of former Netball Fiji President Adi Alisi Tulia Toganivalu Tabete at the age of 70.
Alice Tabete, as she was more commonly known, had a long association with netball in Fiji.
She was a member of the Tiki Netball team that regularly competed at the old Thurston Gardens courts. Her poweress as a goal shooter was soon noticed by national selectors, and she eventually went on to Captain the Fiji netball team.
Once her playing days were over, Alice continued in the sport she loved by taking on the managerial role of the national team. She later became President of Netball Fiji, going on to be the longest serving President. Alice Tabete was a life member of Netball Fiji.
Netball Fiji President Mrs. RubyAnn Sorovaki said Tabete’s contribution to netball in Fiji was immense.
“We grew up playing netball and starting out in administration of the sport under the leadership of Mrs Tabete and many other women who worked tirelessly to grow the sport at. We appreciate the vision she showed and her immense contribution to netball.” “The Netball Fiji family extends its sympathy and prayers to her family during this difficult time.”
Netball Fiji acknowledges with much appreciation her contribution to netball in Fiji and her passion in leadership of the sport.
May she rest in eternal peace.
