Netball Fiji started rolling out its development program for the Northern region with the primary goal of empowering local netball associations; identifying potential for growth, and fostering a stronger connection between northern netball associations and Netball Fiji.
Netball Fiji’s Development programme in Vanua Levu covered Labasa, Savusavu, Dreketi and Bua province.
The trip encompassed all aspects of netball development, ranging from educating netball enthuastis about role of netball Fiji, strategies for development and education on the rules of netball.
Netball Fiji development manager Mr. Sandeep Prasad and umpire educator Losalini Bainivalu spent the three days with netballers to discover the challenges faced by netballers in the north and identify opportunities that can be created to grow netball.
4 programs attracted more than 90 participants, with a majority of them being youths and teachers who already actively coach community clubs and school teams.
Mr. Prasad emphasized that the primary focus is to revive netball associations in the northern division and create more competitive netball tournaments, starting with the aim of reviving the northern rally tournament.
“The goal is to build a number of associations and bring together the leaders of these associations to ensure there is regular tournaments and competitions in Vanua Levu,” Mr Prasad said. He added this will help the teams from associations in Vanua Levu to gain confidence and truly challenge teams and players from other parts of Fiji once the associations grow and start to regularly take part in Netball Fiji’s national tournaments.
