The Suva Netball Club competition is committed to nurturing its young prospects and providing them with more game time.
In a recent interview with Netball Fiji, Mrs Gina Lasaqa, the President of Suva Netball, emphasized the association’s goal of establishing a pathway for their upcoming athletes. This pathway would facilitate their development and increase their chances of representing the national team.
Mrs Lasaqa stated, “We aim to offer our young athletes greater opportunities to develop their game and prepare them for potential selection into the national team.”
She further explained that the process of player development begins within their club competition, starting with the youngest category, the “Princes and Roses” for players aged 9 and under. By participating in weekly club competitions, these young players gain invaluable experience.
“When we observe these young players competing in the primary school championships, we can witness their progress and improved performance,” Mrs Lasaqa commented.
Mrs. Lasaqa firmly believes that their approach will raise the standards of their club competition and ultimately assist their players in reaching the pinnacle of their game.
“At present, we are focused on preparing our players for national selection in the upcoming Pacific Games, we’re also preparing for the upcoming National championship.”
The Suva club competition will enter its eighth round this weekend, with matches taking place at the National Netball Centre.
