After more than 400 days without a national tournament Netball Fiji is kicking off 2022 with the Punjas Digicel Super Club Championship.
12 champion teams from the 5 major districts of Suva, Nasinu, Nadroga, Nadi and Lautoka will compete in the 2-day tournament on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd January. The Central Men’s and Western Men’s teams will also be playing 2 exhibition matches. While preparations for the teams have been disrupted due to the COVID situation and inclement weather, we are expecting intense matches as players have not had a chance to play netball in a while and are raring to go.
Netball Fiji CEO Vivian Koster thanked Punjas and Digicel for their continued support of elite local competition. “We are proud of our long standing partnership and appreciate the support both great companies give to netball in Fiji”. We are also proud of our long association with Viti FM who will once again be our audio partner for the tournament”, Koster said.
She added that “This tournament will be promoting healthy lifestyles through the provision of healthy, balanced meals and fresh fruits to all teams and officials. This initiative is supported by the NetGO Fiji programme and is a way of showing our athletes healthy food choices to enhance their training.”
The tournament will be an opportunity for the national squad members to get some games under their belt in a setting outside of the Fiji Pearls training environment. Every member of the current national squad will be playing in this tournament. The Fiji Pearls Head Coach, Unaisi Rokoura will be at the tournament, and there is an opportunity for players that catch her eye to be called into the Fiji Pearls extended squad.
Netball Fiji acknowledges the hard work and challenges faced by all 14 teams who are participating in the tournament. It is excited to see the completion over the 2-day tournament.
