Netball Fiji held its Annual General Meeting at the Outrigger Fiji Resort on Saturday 28th February. There were thirty-two attendees, a combination of affiliates and observers. Netball Fiji presented the minutes of the last meeting, the President’s report, the financial report and a new constitution. There was extensive discussion on technical and players development and on the Fiji Pearls.
Once again, Netball Fiji was given a clean audit by its auditors HLB Mann Judd Fiji. The exciting, new direction arises from the new constitution that was voted in unanimously. The constitution was the result of extensive work undertaken by a specially comprised Governance Working Group of thirteen members that included the Netball Fiji President, RubyAnn Sorovaki and Vice President (Administration), Kitione Waqavonovono plus the Presidents of Suva, Nasinu, Tailevu, Fiji Secondary Schools, Nadroga, Lautoka and a representative from Bua. Mr. Peter Mazey of the Fiji National Sports Commission, a key stakeholder, was an advisor to the Working Group.
In the new constitution, Netball Fiji has been restructured into a Board of seven directors. These directors will be determined via expression of interest and nomination. The latter voted on by members. The other major restructure is the movement of members into three zones – Central, Western and Northern. All districts will be grouped into their appropriate zone. Each zone will manage themselves in terms of development, working with Netball Fiji. Furthermore, each zone will nominate one member of the Board plus a Netball Director. These positions will be voted on at the AGM. A transition committee will prepare Netball Fiji to put the new constitution into full effect in 2027.
