The Baby Pearls have opened their Netball World Cup with two wins in the bag after edging out Trinidad & Tobago 53 – 40 in the first match, while securing a 66 – 34 victory over Barbados in their second pool match.
Baby Pearl’s strong defense kept Trinidad & Tobago under pressure. TTO remained determined throughout, moving springily on their feet and refusing to give up the fight, but the Baby Pearl’s consistent attacking and leadership on the court ensured they maintained control and secured the win.
In their second match, Baby Pearls built the momentum early with their consistent attack, Barbados kept hustling throughout the match, they occasionally left too much space, which the Baby Pearls capitalized on with smart movement and sharp attacking play. Their switching in the defensive circle disrupted Barbados rhythm, allowing them to control possession and maintain their lead up until the final whistle.
Baby Pearls captain, Nina Nakula said that securing the win in their first game was crucial in setting the momentum throughout their world cup campaign.
“Winning the first game is a big boost for us to keep on track with the remaining pool matches.”
“Our main focus out there was just to do our job and enjoy our game,” said Nakula.
Baby Pearls played Malawi in the third round of their pool match 7pm last night, by the time this paper was published.
They’ll be on BYE tomorrow and their last pool match will be against South Africa 5am on Thursday 25th September.
