Baby Pearls Invitational Tournament concludes after 5 days of intense matchup against the NSW Fiji Davui Netball and South Coast Blaze.
The two overseas teams joined the Baby Pearls extended squad as training match partners, providing the perfect challenge and preparation for the Baby Pearls as they build up towards the World Youth Cup.
The tournament has been a platform for development, teamwork and exposure. Baby Pearls head coach Simone Nalatu explained that the main theme for the team was partnership.
“We made sure that everyone works in partnership when they took the court, we wanted to make sure that our players be able to execute and implement that as a team.”
Coach Nalatu added that the training match has provided the platform for the players to gain exposure and work together as a unit.
“It was an opportunity for our players to hone their skills and to fine-tune their gameplay strategies and strengthen team cohesion in preparation for the World Cup.”
“What we wanted to take in September is a team that work hard together, so this is something we were focused on throughout the tournament, working as a unit.”
“We’ve been monitoring our overseas players, the way in which we rope in our overseas players is to really look at what we have locally and focus on that core, we’ve got a great core of athletes here and just try and build around what’s available overseas.”
Nalatu is looking to select the strongest possible team, “we want to make sure those overseas players will compliment what we’ve already got here.”
Coach Nalatu is expected to announce her final 15-member squad at the end of the month.
