21&U Baby Pearls Goal Keeper Varanisese Vula has showcased some outstanding performance in the past four rounds of the FinanceHub Super League.
The 19 year old player who hails from Lekutu in Bua explained in an interview that she’s always been passionate about netball from a very young age.
“My netball journey began back in primary school in Veiuto Primary School in under 9 and then continued my journey in secondary school playing from U14 right up to U19, Iam playing for the Lomaiviti Club,” said Varanisese.
“Growing up from a young age, I’ve always been passionate about the game of netball, I’ve always been in love with netball, most of my friends share the same passion for this game and my family has always been there supporting me when i first played netball in primary school until now.”
“I’ve always look up to Unaisi Rauluni growing up, I’ve always admired watching her play, she was my idol and I’ve always said that one day I will be playing like her at international level.”
The Nukuvula lass played for the Suva Grammar U19 last year in the Fiji Secondary Schools Finals, she was later selected into the Netball Fiji National Academy program.
Varanisese was selected into the Baby Pearls extended squad that is competing in the FinanceHub Super League. The 19 year old is playing for the Baby Pearls team Kikau.
“My aim now is to make it to the final squad in the 2025 Netball World Youth Championship, I’m doing all I can and giving my best on and off court to be able to make the final squad.
Varanisese is also a first year student at the University of the South Pacific, she emphasized on the importance of balancing her studies and training.
“I’m a first-year student at the University of the South Pacific, balancing my training and studies has always been a challenge but I’m always determined in making sure that I give my best in school and give my best in training.”
Varanisese and her Baby Pearls teammates are now preparing for the upcoming Rising Star Fiji 21&U Tour set to take place at the Vodafone Arena, in Suva from 19th August to 23rd August.
The event will be a preparation platform for the National 21&U Baby Pearls team to the Oceania World Youth Cup Qualifier in Cook Islands in September.
Current World Youth Cup Champions New Zealand 21&U and runners up Australia will be part of the Tournament, including the Singapore 21&U team.
The 5 days tournament will also provide valuable competition experience for Varanisese and her Baby Pearls teammates ahead of the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup.
