Fiji Pearls Goal Shooter Lydia Panapasa has proved that being a young mom and working a full-time job should never deter one from pursuing their dream sport, as she secured her spot in the World Cup team.
The 23-year-old has faced her fair share of challenges on her path to represent Fiji at the 2023 Netball World Cup. Balancing her work commitments while making time for her small family , and following through daily trainings was no easy feat.
Lydia hails from Juju, Rotuma, with maternal links to Tubou, Lakeba in Lau, the mother of one is also serving the country as a police officer. Lydia stand as a testament to the idea that one can be a dedicated mom, working full time and still pursue their passion with determination.
“At times I felt like quitting because of the pressure I go through, being a young mom and working full-time while also trying to keep my focus on my training,” said Lydia.
“Its been a long journey for me, coming back into the team as a mom, I kinda struggle a bit, physically and mentally, but its been great that I have my family and friends around me that always support and motivates me.”
Lydia emphasised that the passion she has for netball is something that drives her to continue doing what she loves.
“Its the feeling that I get when I play, I believe that if you love what you do, you’d never stop doing what you love, so that’s also something that’s keeping me going, its the love I have for netball.”
