Netball Fiji concluded it’s Academy Programme last weekend at the Vodafone Arena, Suva.
The four months Academy programme consisted of four training camps that commenced on 5th November 2022. The Academy programme is an initiative by Netball Fiji to develop upcoming Netball prospects from all across the country.
The programme included high performance training camps and a series of workshops on strength and conditioning, player development, and leadership to name a few.
The 31 academy members received recognition at the end of the training camp last weekend for their dedication throughout the four months of the programme.
Netball Fiji Chief Executive Vivian Koster says dedication has paid off for the young girls who hope to one day make the national team.
“We’ve seen such an improvement from the first camp to the fifth, improvement in skills and technique which was the purpose of the academy we identified these players through their schools and through their districts and brought them in to provide them with a bit more skills and technique and knowledge and we’re seeing the benefit of that already,” said Vivian.
Few members of the Academy programme have already made the cut into the Fiji Pearls extended squad and have began training with the squad in the past weeks.
Academy players have been handed their daily training programmes and will return to their individual clubs. The next phase of the Academy programme will commence around September.
