The Nadroga Netball Association is looking to field a young squad in the upcoming FinanceHub Super League competition.
Nadroga Netball president Avinesh Kumar explained that one of their main focus going into the Super League is to get more exposure for their young athletes.
Mr. Kumar said that selection of young players will give them the opportunity to develop them and get them game time and experience under the senior players.
“We just want to have a young team because we want to develop our upcoming players so looking at the next few year, we will have more experience players, and the next line of young players in the mix.”
Mr. Kumar said that majority of Nadroga players were selected from their 19&U category in their Club games.
“Majority of our players in the Nadroga team are young players selected from our 19&U categories in our competition, we selected about 60 players from our competition and we organized a competition for our extended squad, divided into different zones, Nadro West, Nadro Northwest, Nadro Central, and Nadro Baravi, the four team played in a round robin tournament last week during our club games, our selectors manage to select our final squad for the FinanceHub Super League,” added Mr. Kumar.
Mr.Kumar emphasized the main aim for Nadroga Netball is to continue and provide a pathway for their players to make selection into the National teams.
“We already got three of our girls from the 19&U category who are in the Baby Pearls squad and one in the Fiji Pearls, our aim is that more young players from the Nadroga Netball makes it to the National team, not only the National 21&U but also in the Fiji Pearls team.”
The 2024 Finance Hub Super League Champion the IGA Suva Swift will take on National 21&U team Kikau in round one at the FMF Gymnasium on the 28th June while the other matches will be held on the 29th. Lautoka Stars will take on Tailevu at the Lautoka Multipurpose court, Nadi takes on Nadroga Stallions at Lawaqa park, while Nasinu Gold takes on National 21&U team Kacau at the LICI Courts in Laucala.
